DVD Devils
Programs are getting bigger. It would sometimes be easier to stick our applications
on a DVD rather than several CD's. But we can't. Why>? Because we don't know
what format to put it on.
Including DVD-R's and DVD-RW's there are no less than 4 different competing
formats and some DVD drives will refuse to take any of them. Althoug the problem
seems bad, DVD Roms tend to be more compatable than DVD players. But this doesn't
make us not too bad off - this just means the amatur videoists really have a
problem.
We;re still going to be stuck with 700 mb disc's if the industry giants cannot
make up their mind which formats to use. This isn't a new battle - its been
going on for years. But now DVD-R's and DVD-RW's are becoming affordable just
as CD-RW's did the problem is only going to get worse. And we're left waiting
for them to make their minds up. |
